We all know that Bangkok, especially the Khaosan/Banglumphoo Area has more budget guesthouses than pimples on a horny teenager. For just 150Baht (about 200pesos) you can sleep luxuriously in a windowless cell, furnished with an electric fan , and take part in the exciting lifecycle of the exotic Thai bedbug in their natural habitat. For 300-600 Baht, (450 to 800 pesos), book a dormitory room and get a chance to meet and smell different people from all over the world! re discover your true sexual identity in the common bathrooms as you rub bottoms with that strange room mate who's been watching you sleep all night. or for 850Baht, you can stay at Thamna.
We booked this place after exchanging emails with the owner, Palika; and we were not dissapointed. This little guesthouse is amazing! It is near must see cultural sposts like the Grandpalace and Wats, a short walk to the circus that is Khao San. For 850 baht a night (aprox 1,200Php) , we got a beautiful cozy queen sized room. (The rooms are bigger than they look on the picture) No windows but since the bed and comforters were so comfortable, we didn't want to get up at all! Palika graciously offered to upgrade us to the king size room with windows free of charge since the guest who had booked it cancelled abrubtly, but we declined. We were happy enough with the room we were given (and had already messed it up the bed hehehe) The bathroom was exquisite! it's down the hall but each room gets its own bathroom. I loved how the bare cement walls complemented the white fixtures, the brass faucet and the big beautiful chinese pot used as the bathroom sink. Gorgeous!
breakfast or lunch for two people is included AND you can choose anything you want from their vegetarian restaurant downstairs. None of those wimpy toast and butter breakfast for me! Being non vegetarians, I was ,at first, worried we won't be able to find anything on the menu. As it turns out, Brian did go hungry. Unamed witnesses later testified that thay saw his cute and sexy companion wolf down most of the delicious vegetarian fried rice he ordered from the menu while he was not looking.
There is free wifi, a laundry service which we took advantage of when we got back with muddy clothes from the elephant ride in ayutthaya, intelligent books to read and the staff were always smiling and helpful. The young owners were welcoming and gracious, helping us talk to tuktuk drivers, finding out the schedule if the train to ayutthaya, discussing thailand politics over breakfast... It really did feel like a home.
